(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok, about his puppy – Chilbongie

How did you become family with Chilbongie, your puppy who would occasionally come out on your Instagram? Cosmo Editor is a fan of Chilbongie.

Actually I had a puppy that I raised at home since I was young , but as pets don’t live as long as humans… it was really hard after we had to say goodbye. So I sort of made an agreement with my parents. Let’s not raise a puppy (anymore). As you know it, things don’t go the way we want it to be. My mother adopted a puppy with a sad story after hearing about it from the people around her. All of Chilbongie’s siblings that were born together with him died. There were four or five of them but all died and he was the only one left. His mother died too. It seemed that the person who was raising Chilbongie, was in an untenable and heartbreaking situation where they could not raise him anymore. They thought that they may lose Chilbongie on top of their bad situation. My mother listened to the story and adopted him, and he was very sick when being brought in. It turned out that he had worms. He was given treatment and now he’s very healthy.

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok, on his chemistry with Seo Hyun Jin and her reaction to him acting cute

Q. The chemistry between you and Seo Hyun Jin is also great
A. Seo Hyun Jin has an easygoing style, and she’s not the type of person who is hard to communicate with. I think she get along well with everyone, and as my character was younger, I found myself acting cute (doing agyeo) during filming (laughs). We got close that we could not tell who was older, and we filmed comfortably.

Q. You acting cute, did Seo Hyun Jin accept it well? (Laughs)
A. It made her toes curl. But I did not intentionally act cute, it was more out of unconsciousness because I was set to be a younger person. We joke around a lot too.

Q. The chemistry between the two of you was so good that you received best couple award. It seemed like you expected to win it.
A. I did not expect to win it. Ours is a medical drama and not a melodrama, so our couple’s romance didn’t show up much. Because of that, I did not expect to win, but I still wanted to win it because it is an award that signify us as actors who have chemistry together and that we have a wonderful collaboration. Luckily we received the best couple award and I also received acting award, so I felt great at the end of the year. As we were still shooting, I accepted it as to keep the chemistry between us until the end.

Q. The romance did not show up much and the love scenes are not that many. But it was especially intense.
A. Ah, that’s right. It was a little burdensome to have a kiss scene from the first episode. Although such scenes were few, we made a lot of effort to film them well. In the second half, the melo scenes were given more strength. They might be small in number but since we steadily put in a lot of effort to film them well, I receive a lot of words from the people around me saying that those scenes were refreshing and great.

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok, on how filming Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim has changed his criteria in choosing works

This time through this work, one of the things that Yoo Yeon Seok gained was the energy that emanated from working in harmony with his colleagues. He says his criteria for choosing a work has now changed after filming ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’.

“If in the past my criterion in choosing a piece of work was based on personally trying to find a different character, but from now on there will be an additional criterion which is who will be there in making it. I really have felt so much energy from the team work this time. I think with whom I will make the work with will be an important factor to consider”.

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok, on his next plan

Q. We look forward to seeing you more in the future. In what form, do you think you’re going to stand in front of public?

A. Nothing has been confirmed yet on my next work. I’m thinking of going travelling while taking a break and once I’ve recharge myself completely, I’ll read the works slowly. Please wait for me to return soon with a character in a good project.
