There are many life lessons worth noted throughout the drama, and it ended with the one from Teacher Kim about how to live a romantic life. Narrated beautifully (as always) by uri Yoo Yeon Seok, it says:

You cannot find the right answer every single time. But Teacher Kim always said, ‘Do not give up asking questions about why we live and what we live for. The moment you give up on that, the romance in life ends’

Actress Kim Hye Soo cameos on the final and prequel episodes as Teacher Kim’s first love named Lee Young Jo who works for Doctor without Borders. It is wonderful to see her story is seamlessly woven into the dynamics of Doldam family. Her brief appearance peaked at 31.5%, the highest real-time ratings ever recorded by the drama.

But there is nothing can beat the satisfaction of watching our resident doctors grows into their better self, all the while finding love and friendship in each other. A little jealousy and fights are common in this quirky hospital as long as patients are saved and love are preserved.

[Rating Report]’Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ Breaks Its Own Record in Week 9

Heading toward its finale, ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ proves once again that there’s no end to how high its rating can go. As if hitting a new high of 26% during the airing of episode 18 is not enough,  the drama soars higher in episode 19 as it clocked in 26.7% viewership rating.

The success came with a sweet reward as the cast and crew is confirmed to have a paid vacation in Cebu, the Philippines. They are scheduled to depart on 20 January on  a 4-days-5-nights vacation.  Lead stars Han Suk Gyu and Seo Hyun Jin will not be able to join due to personal schedules.

Ratings for Episode 19

The rating in episode 18 peaked at 30% when Dong Joo (Yoo Yeon Seok) confronted his mentor Teacher Kim (Han Suk Kyu) of events surrounding the death of his father in Goedae Hospital.  According to Nielsen Korea, as cited by International Business Time, a 30% rating in episode 18 means that around six million viewers tuned in to watch the drama. The drama leads the Monday-Tuesday broadcast slot by a landslide with four time as many viewers as other two shows at the same time.

As the drama progresses, viewers are hooked with its storylines as well as the growth of its characters. Everyone in Doldam are flawed characters to begin with and its so satisfying to see their steady progress throughout the series. People in their 20s, especially, will relate with Dong Joo’s arc as he struggles to find his place in the world. People are in turn rooting for him and are anticipating how much he will grow as a doctor and as a person. So imagine how satisfying it must be to see the selfish and ambitious Dong Joo learns how to apologise, set aside his ego and becoming a doctor that he supposed to be. Many are praising Yoo Yeon Seok for his portrayal of Dong Joo and we could’t be happier *mama bear sobs*.

If there is one thing that the drama hasn’t made any change but still made us happy is the amount of behind the scene pictures released to public. Through the pictures, viewers can feel just how comfortable the casts are with each other. They are seen laughing, sending cheeky smiles and most importantly, some tall person is extra clingy to his sunbae. hehehe…

Nothing seems to stop ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ from hitting another rating record this week. Episode 17 brought in 25.1% viewership rating, a solid 3 percent increase from the January 2 episode. With this new record,  the juggernaut drama beats its personal best of 23.8% that came with episode 12.

The drama is so successful that the cast and crew will be flown to Cebu on 20 January for a prize vacation. Congratulations!!

Kim Sabu and President Do are always in constant confrontation in both episode 16 and 17. However, their fierce verbal argument at the pivotal moment of episode 17 grabbed got the most attention as the rating peaked at 29.7%.

We also got some intense medical scenes in both episodes with Chairman Shin’s operation and an emergency operation performed by new bromance in town, Dong Joo and In Beom.

Conflict and blood aside, the best thing about episode 16 and 17 are the heart thumping scenes of our Dong Joo and Seo Jung. The two lovebirds still tried to hide their blooming romance but heck, who are they going to fool? We are talking about peculiar people in Doldam hospital where everyone has the ability to see right through some facades.

Good news is, love wins over pizza and we got to see our couple acts like they’re in a relationship. So, all we can ask is, “Sunbae, how does resting your head on Dong Joo’s pacific ocean wide shoulder feel?”

[20161231] Yoo Yeon Seok Brought Home Prizes from SBS Drama Awards

Dreams do come true, that’s what we believe here in YeoNiverse.

For the past few months, our collective dream of seeing Yoo Yeon Seok in a hit drama has finally came true. His drama, Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim, is undisputedly one of the biggest hits in 2016. His acting is also receiving recognition as he received the Excellence Award for Genre Drama Category at 2016 SBS Drama Awards. Congratulations, Dr. Kang, eh Yoo Yeon Seok!!

 photo SAF7.jpg
 photo SAF5.jpg

He later went to Instagram to express his happiness from receiving the award, his gratitude toward fans, and new year wishes.

English translation:

“I receive a very big award thanks to the fans who always love and cheered me on. Thank you and I love you. I’m starting 2017 feeling so happy. Everybody be well and Happy New Year.”

For Yoo Yeon Seok and his co-star Seo Hyun Jin, 2016 SBS Drama Awards gave them two more awards. The first one is ‘Best Couple Award’ that they received alongside Lee Jun Ki and IU (Moon Lovers) as well as Lee Minho and Jeon Ji Hyun (Legends of the Blue Sea).

 photo SAF8.jpg

When Yoo Yeon Seok was asked how he felt about receiving the award, it’s almost unbelievable yet amazing how he could give off a cheesiest possible response. He said (as quoted from ‘unstoppable sun‘) :

Ours is a medical drama so we really weren’t expecting anything. Having received this…we’re always at the hospital in gowns filming, but seeing Hyunjin-sshi in a dress, it feels like I’ll go into arrest. Sunbae, I think I need CPR!

His comment is sooooo cheesy, everyone burst out laughing and poor Seo Hyun Jin had to show her curled fingers to the audience. Seo Hyun Jin literally gave the same response to Yoo Yeon Seok’s cheesy lines, both in the drama and real life. Meanwhile, we had a collective meltdown in embarrassment here in YeoNiverse and immediately wished that he just go home. kekekeke..

 photo SAF13.jpg

As if Yoo Yeon Seok’s remark is not embarassing enough,  SBS tried to up the cheesiness level with their Best Kiss Award that is based on votes casted by 100 idols. The winner is none other than our beloved romantic doctors who set fires on our scenes with their sizzling chemistry and kiss scenes.

With this award, are the idols giving a cue to ‘more steamy kisses in the future’? muahahahahaha…

It seems that their kiss scenes are so electric that the two were even asked on the same thing during on red carpet. Got to love Seo Hyun Jin’s response as she admitted to enjoying it. Meanwhile, Yoo Yeon Seok said he was actually nervous about kissing in doctor white gown. Well, at least he later told the world that it is not illegal to kiss in the white gown.ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

All in all, Yoo Yeon Seok in ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ is the best 2016 could bring us. Dream do come true and here’s to more success for Yoo Yeon Seok and all YeoNizens in 2017.

Happy New Year!! 새해 복 많이 받으세요!!

[Rating Report] ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ Came Out Triumphant Despite Pre-Emption

Despite one-episode cancellation on Monday, ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ came out triumpant on Tuesday as it tops the game with 23.7% viewership rating.

Not only the juggernaut drama has reclaimed its position as the most viewed drama of Monday-Tuesday time slot, it managed to increase the number of viewers from last week’s episode 14 that clocked in 22.9% in rating. What’s better, the rating of episode 15 is only a shy away from its personal best of 23.8% that was achieved in episode 12. With this record in mind, there is a big hope that ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ can achieve a higher rating as it enters the final quarter next week.

While romance was making its return last week with a steamy kiss, Doldam Hospital is now home to a blossoming romance with crazy touch of cheesines and giddiness. Who would have guessed that Dong Joo (Yoo Yeon Seok) is such an overly giddy teenage boyfriend type? No wonder Seo Jung (Seo Hyun Jin) can’t help but curling her hand at his spur-of-moment love confession in different languages. But how cute is that? ❤

Rating wise, the romance took the hearts of many. The drama peaked at 28.23% when Dong Joo and Seo Jung are engaged in fake fight to conceal their new romantic relationship from the eagle eyes of hospital staff. Like they can be fooled anyway.. mhuahahahaha..

[Rating Report] ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ Maintains Lead in Week 7

Why does ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ maintain rating lead even after the drama’s romance kicked into a high gear?

According to OSEN, the answer is pretty simple. ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’ is not a drama that uses hospital to bloom romance between doctors. It is a drama about the growth of doctors. It is also a slice-of-life drama portrays the bitter reality in South Korea through the various medical incidents or the patients coming to Doldam hospital. Taken an example of the recent MERS situation in episode 13 and 14, the drama tries to reflect on the ineffectiveness of response carried on during an outbreak. With this amazing feats, it is to no surprise that, the drama continues to glue its avid viewers and managed to hover around the coveted 20% rating in week 7.

Ratings for Episode 13
AGB: Nationwide: 22.6%, Metropolitan: 24.8%
TNMS: Nationwide: 19.7%, Metropolitan: 24%

Ratings for Episode 14
AGB: Nationwide: 22.9%, Metropolitan: 24.6%
TNMS: Nationwide: 21.6%, Metropolitan: 26%

Rating aside, it is the giddiness of romance that brings smile to many viewers, us included. Watching the recuperated Kang Dong Joo looking so much in love with Yoon Seo Jung bring so many butterflies, and of course smiles. That expression Yoo Yeon Seok has while his character is looking at the love of his live captures hearts, every single time.

 photo Still14-3.jpg
 photo Still14-1.jpg
 photo Still14-4.jpg
 photo Still14-2.jpg

Words are incomprehensible the moment Kang Dong Joo and Yoon Seo Jung decided to mutter whatever they have in their hearts at the end of episode 14. I love that the show addresses Seo Jung’s past trauma and while Dong Joo’s persistence might not sit well with some viewers, I am hoping that the show will eventually show how much love is not love without efforts to understand each other and to ease each other’s pain. So let me once again express just how much I love their kiss scene at the end, so passionate with gorgeous lighting in the background. Perfect ending for an amazing drama.

And look at those two beloved actors blushed after filming their kiss scene. So cute!
