(Quote) Kim Min Jae, on Yoo Yeon Seok

“Yoo Yeon Seok sunbae-nim is the best. Even though there is a big age difference between us, he treated me really well like a real older brother. Above all, I’m not a person who would usually cry but at the scene which (Yeon Seok) hyung cried, I cried. His acting is really that good. In my view the person who represents the young actors nowadays is probably him.”

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin, on their first kissing scene in Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim

KNTV Guide : The kissing scene in ep. 1 between the both of you became the talk of the town.

Yoo Yeon Seok : The sudden kiss scene made the viewers surprised. Dong Joo, whom I played, has totally fallen in love with Seo Jung sunbae who appeared to be so cool when saving a patient. And he also felt the vulnerability as a woman when seeing the senior, whom he thought as having a much stronger mind than him, crying secretly, and he kissed her impulsively.

Seo Hyun Jin : Seo Jung whom I acted as, had a guy whom she was seeing. She had a passive relationship with that man. And if with him she had a mixed of respect and love kind of relationship, then I think with Dong Joo she had a fiery love.
Although they were in a relationship where they always quarrelled hatefully, but I think if she really hated him, she wouldn’t quarrel with him. Her heart was shaken as they kissed.
It’s a very beautiful scene.

Yoo Yeon Seok : We shot the kissing scene right after we started filming. So to somewhat make the scene a little smoother, I brought some wine to the filming set. We drank the wine together and filmed the scene. The staffs shot the scene beautifully, with different passions from those at surgery scenes.

Seo Hyun Jin : The director told me that “The kiss scene cannot be unconvincing”.
“Because it’s an important scene from now on leading to the conclusion of episode 20, we must shoot it beautifully so it doesn’t feel random” he said.
So together we did our best to film it.

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin, on who’s the mood maker at RDTK filming set

KNTV Guide : Who was the mood maker on the set?

Yoo Yeon Seok : It’s hard to pick just one because all of us became familiar and attached to each other as we’ve spent our time at the hospital filming set for quite a while. Each one of the roles we played was unique and fun. The surprising person is Han Suk Kyu sunbae who acted as Kim Sa Bu. He has a calm and cool image, but actually he can very humorous and cute (lovely?) too. He’s always soft (and made us comfortable?) at the set.

Seo Hyun Jin : When there were NGs, he’d blame me, mumble to himself or laughed. Im Won Hee sunbae too, though his role is very talkative, in reality he’s very shy.

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok, on the one thing he wishes to attain this year

Your drama was well loved, you appeared in the movie of a director whom you respected, so last year you have achieved as much as what you expected. If there is one thing you wish to achieve this year, what will it be?

To finish writing my overdue thesis? I have to finish my thesis and graduate but my advising professor was on sabbatical. Now I should at least write the list of content. Haha

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok, about his puppy – Chilbongie

How did you become family with Chilbongie, your puppy who would occasionally come out on your Instagram? Cosmo Editor is a fan of Chilbongie.

Actually I had a puppy that I raised at home since I was young , but as pets don’t live as long as humans… it was really hard after we had to say goodbye. So I sort of made an agreement with my parents. Let’s not raise a puppy (anymore). As you know it, things don’t go the way we want it to be. My mother adopted a puppy with a sad story after hearing about it from the people around her. All of Chilbongie’s siblings that were born together with him died. There were four or five of them but all died and he was the only one left. His mother died too. It seemed that the person who was raising Chilbongie, was in an untenable and heartbreaking situation where they could not raise him anymore. They thought that they may lose Chilbongie on top of their bad situation. My mother listened to the story and adopted him, and he was very sick when being brought in. It turned out that he had worms. He was given treatment and now he’s very healthy.

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok, on his chemistry with Seo Hyun Jin and her reaction to him acting cute

Q. The chemistry between you and Seo Hyun Jin is also great
A. Seo Hyun Jin has an easygoing style, and she’s not the type of person who is hard to communicate with. I think she get along well with everyone, and as my character was younger, I found myself acting cute (doing agyeo) during filming (laughs). We got close that we could not tell who was older, and we filmed comfortably.

Q. You acting cute, did Seo Hyun Jin accept it well? (Laughs)
A. It made her toes curl. But I did not intentionally act cute, it was more out of unconsciousness because I was set to be a younger person. We joke around a lot too.

Q. The chemistry between the two of you was so good that you received best couple award. It seemed like you expected to win it.
A. I did not expect to win it. Ours is a medical drama and not a melodrama, so our couple’s romance didn’t show up much. Because of that, I did not expect to win, but I still wanted to win it because it is an award that signify us as actors who have chemistry together and that we have a wonderful collaboration. Luckily we received the best couple award and I also received acting award, so I felt great at the end of the year. As we were still shooting, I accepted it as to keep the chemistry between us until the end.

Q. The romance did not show up much and the love scenes are not that many. But it was especially intense.
A. Ah, that’s right. It was a little burdensome to have a kiss scene from the first episode. Although such scenes were few, we made a lot of effort to film them well. In the second half, the melo scenes were given more strength. They might be small in number but since we steadily put in a lot of effort to film them well, I receive a lot of words from the people around me saying that those scenes were refreshing and great.

(Quote) Yoo Yeon Seok, on how filming Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim has changed his criteria in choosing works

This time through this work, one of the things that Yoo Yeon Seok gained was the energy that emanated from working in harmony with his colleagues. He says his criteria for choosing a work has now changed after filming ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim’.

“If in the past my criterion in choosing a piece of work was based on personally trying to find a different character, but from now on there will be an additional criterion which is who will be there in making it. I really have felt so much energy from the team work this time. I think with whom I will make the work with will be an important factor to consider”.
