They said good things eventually come to an end. So does the role of doctor Kang Dong Joo to Yoo Yeon Seok. As ‘Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim is nearing its end, his time playing doctor Kang is also numbered. [20150820] Yoo Yeon Seok Is NewsCulture’s Selected ‘Actor of The Week’

NewsCulture, one of Korea’s news portals, released an article on 20 August 2015 to announce their selection of Yoo Yeon Seok as the ‘Actor of the Week’. Dubbed as an actor with various facial expressions, Yoo Yeon Seok is praised for his versatility in acting cold and warm characters. He is considered as part of the new emerging melodrama hero in Korean cinema.

 photo yys-newsculture2.png

In his latest film, Yoo Yeon Seok plays Woo Jin, a man who changes face everytime he wakes up. Thanks to his melodical and warm tone in narrating the movie, he tied all different Woo Jin together. Yoo Yeon Seok managed to live up to Director Baek’s expectation in maximazing the dramatic element of the movie with his appearance, acting skill and voice tone.

So who would have guessed that Yoo Yeon Seok was actually nervous when doing the narration? During the Beauty Inside Press Screening, he revealed that he was very worried to whether he could bridge different actors and actresses together. He is thankful that all of them demonstrated wonderful acting which implies to the one that eventually made his narration work.

Prior to his breakthrough role as Chilbong on Reply 1994, Yoo Yeon Seok was dubbed as the most hated man thanks to his role as Suzy’s playboy sunbae in Architecture 101. He went on a killing  sphree toward other nation’s little sisters such as Park Bo Young and Park Shin Hye in Werewolf Boy and The Royal Tailor respectively. No wonder that NewsCulture considers him as the nation’s little sister killer. He finally made a hattrick in killing 3 nation’s little sisters!

 photo yys-newsculture5.png

When it comes to warm character, Yoo Yeon Seok has proven that he can act as convincingly. He captured so many hearts – and broke them at the same time – in his well-loved character, Chilbong. YeoNiverse is forever thankful to Yoo Yeon Seok for breathing life and so much love to Chilbong. He is our forever our most favorite baseball player on universe.

In his first ever leading role in drama, Yoo Yeon Seok was challenged to bring the warm and cozy feeling to ‘Baek Geun Woo’. Did he make it? We are nodding in agreement with NewsCulture. Yoo Yeon Seok managed to make audience cheering for Baek Geun Woo despite all the frustation and ball of anger toward his character. And thanks to his visual image, Baek Geun Woo is considered as a flower boy chef.

In the future, Yoo Yeon Seok is hoping to be able to perform in different stages such as drama play or musical.

Yoo Yeon Seok hwaiting!!

[20150808] On The Set : “Whistle Blower” Heads to Japan for Limited Screening and Some Insight Stories

After ‘The Royal Tailor’ reportedly secured a release date in Japan, now it is Yoo Yeon Seok’s other movie ‘Whistle Blower’ that will be making its way to the Japanese audience. The movie will be one of the four movies to be screened as part of World Extreme Cinema 2015 at Human Trust Cinema in Shibuya, Tokyo. The movie will get one week limited screening from 3 to 9 October 2015.

 photo whistleblower - japan.jpg

Still on Whistle Blower, YeoNiverse was contacted directly by Lady Miz Diva from TheDivaReview who shared with us her exclusive interviews with the directors of Yoo Yeon Seok movies, Whistle Blower and The Royal Tailor. Director Im Soo Rye and Director Lee Won Suk sit for interviews during New York Asian Film Festival 2015 to talk about all sort of things related to their movies and of course, our Yoo Yeon Seok is a must topic of discussion. We posted below part of TheDivaReview’s interviews that mention Yoo Yeon Seok.

Exclusive Interview with Im Soo Rye, The Director of Whistle Blower

LMD:   Your cast is excellent, but in particular I’m intrigued why you thought Yoo Yeon-seok would make a good Whistleblower character?  He’s usually either a lovable loser, or a very not-lovable loser.  He’s never played a father before, and here he’s a dad who adores his child and is worried about all children.

YS-r:  You’re very well-informed about Korean actors. {Laughs}  Actually, that part was the hardest to cast.  For the two main characters, we have very established and very well-known actors, who are Park Hae-il and Lee Geung-young.  So this {Whistleblower} character has smaller screen time and it’s not the main character, but still, we needed an actor who could portray subtle, internal pain and anguish.  So we were trying to cast from a pool of actors who were still a bit established and not people who were completely unknown.

To narrow down that pool and to find someone who was willing to act for that sort of screen time was sort of a challenge for us, but luckily, when we met Yeon-seok, he agreed to do it, because despite the small screen time, he looks up to Park Hae-il as a role model as an actor, and he just really, really wanted to have the chance to work alongside Park Hae-il. He agreed to do the role.

Exclusive Interview with Lee Won Suk, The Director of The Royal Tailor

LMD:  That leads me to ask about your king, Mr. Yoo Yeon-seok.

LW-s:  He’s a really nice guy, seriously he’s so sweet and he’s so funny, too.  On the set, everybody was so serious about shooting, and me and him {would be laughing} and my AD was telling me, “Please keep it down, they’re trying to act.”  He and I were making fun of each other.

LMD: That’s just it, he seems like a really sweet, nice person and he often plays very sweet, nice people, otherwise, he plays kind of one-dimensional, very mean people. The king has to go through the whole arc of being this pure-hearted guy who really loves Park Shin-hye’s character, who, as he grows more powerful, becomes twisted into someone ugly and hateful. What made you think that this nice guy could be effective?

LW-s: See, every person has complexes, from small things. When I read the script, the thing that I really liked was when he was young, his brother got everything: That scene with the beef? It was really a small scale {petty} guy who kept a grudge his whole life over beef. Who does that? But people do that – I do that!

All these people in this film have all these complexes inside, they carry it all the way through. And no one gets happy in this movie, it’s very conservative. The reason that I loved the script was everybody’s become so conservative. The way I felt was, I thought I was very crazy and wild, and then I got married and had my kid and I became really conservative, without knowing sometimes. Sometimes I’m like, “Really? Seriously? I said that? Oh my God, I acted like that?” My mind has become very conservative, trying to protect what I have. In this movie, everybody wants to protect what they have; the tailor wanted to keep his job, the king wants to keep his throne, the queen wants to be loved by the king. The only person that gets everything and is happy is Ko Soo’s character. He got what he wanted and he went to La La land.

TheDivaReview also shared with us just how kind Yoo Yeon Seok is. He personally authographed a photo for her and ensured that its rightful owner knows it. Aww…. that’s so kind of him.. It certainly made us proud to be part of his universe.

All in all, we are equally glad that Yoo Yeon Seok’s movies, both Royal Tailor and Whistle Blower got their chances to be screened for audiences in Japan. This exposure could boost his popularity in Japan, especially with him having an official Japanese fanclub.

For more information on the movie’s screening in Japan, you can visit the website of WEC or Human Trust Cinema Shibuya. And if you wish to get to know more about TheDivaReview, you can visit the website and facebook page.

[20150703] (News article + Netizen comments) Actor Yoo Yeon Seok’s variation of roles are received favorably

11608474_99_20150703140107

Regardless of what genre and what character he will portray, Yoo Yeon Seok’s moves are grabbing attention.

Yoo Yeon Seok has given an enthusiastic performance as the innocent and lovely Baek Geon Woo in the recent MBC Wed-Thu drama “Warm and Cozy”. His acting spectrum has expanded once again.

The public started to recognise him as “Chilbongie” in “Reply 1994” (2013). Yoo Yeon Seok potrayed a Seoul-born baseball player who is perfect in all specs such as appearance, household, personality, sense and loves the woman earnestly. Because of this role, he took the position as women’s ideal.

Yoo Yeon Seok who comes out like a comet and sways women’s hearts actually has a heavy filmography. After 10 years of becoming an actor, he received spotlight once again. He has challenged various characters. It provokes the public’s curiousity on which character that has same personality as him. He has a gentle face, but he could portray his character as a Gangnam oppa in the film “Architecture 101” and an evil character Jitae in the movie “A Werewolf Boy” perfectly. Because of that, he received favorable criticism.

His works in historical genre definitely looks impressive too. He acted as a cool headed scholar who has a strong sense of honor in drama “Gu Family Book” and he brought forth the King “wangme patale” (king + femme fatale) charms in the movie “Royal Tailor”.

Not only that, he also appeared as a researcher in movie “Whistle Blower” and as a wealthy guy who has deadly charms in the recently released film “Perfect Proposal”. He displays variable transformations with new characters in various genres.

He then gives the light into unprecedented romantic comedy male lead character in the recent drama, “Warm and Cozy”. Yoo Yeon Seok started his debut as an actor by appearing as younger version of Yoo Ji Tae in movie “Old Boy”. He strengthens his solid acting ability and steadily develops as an actor.

Yoo Yeon Seok’s variation of characters is dynamic. Whatever the character is, he digested it naturally with his own color and his acting spectrum keeps on going broader. He has fulfilled his projects in thriller, melo, historical, and also romantic comedy genre, on small and big screens. He attempts new variations in every project and every character so we are excited which steps in the future he will take.

Meanwhile, after finishing MBC Wed-Thu drama “Warm and Cozy”, he is scheduled to join movie “Hae-eo-hwa”.

Will Han Hyo Joo get to kiss all the 21 Woo Jin in one movie? Will Yoo Yeon Seok really kiss Han Hyo Joo in the movie? In a month or so, we will get the answer!

Talking about an answer, Yoo Yeon Seok’s previous drama ‘Answer Me 1994’ aka ‘Reply 1994‘ gets another Japanese rerun in Japan’s DLife. The Disney’s owned satelite TV will air the drama from Monday to Friday every 1.30 PM starting today, 25 June 2015. Check the full schedule HERE.

The latest update came from ‘Royal Tailor‘. Guess that’s all I got for you today. ‘On The Set’ might not get a regular date like ‘Around The Net’ but hopefully it will since Yoo Yeon Seok’s eyes are pretty glued to Chungmuro. He has one movie completed with Moon Chae Won, ‘The Mood That Day‘ and he soon will enter the production of ‘Heohwa‘ with Beauty Inside’s co-star Han Hyo Joo.

I am signing off for now. See ya next time!

[20150429] Yoo Yeon Seok’s Filmography Update

Okay, just how many movies Yoo Yeon Seok did in the past year?

We are about to lose track, to be honest. He literally spent most of his time last year filming movies after movies (plus lots of CFs). If Na PD did not kidnap and ship him off to Laos with Son Ho Jun and Baro, we were really in danger of not seeing him in the small screen all year long. Youth Over Flowers first aired in September and ran until October 2014.

The Informant and Royal Tailor were released in October and December 2014 respectively. Expectation was running high before turning tide with the push back of Perfect Proposal‘s release date to June 2015. Not to mention all the bits and pieces about his movie with Moon Chae Woon titled The Mood That Day to keep the fans on their toes. Then came Warm and Cozy which released all Yoo Yeon Seok’s fans from fear of their favorite actor never to make a return to the small screen.

 photo TheMoodThatDay.jpg

“When it rains, it pours”

Now we have an update on his even newer movie, Beauty Inside. Joining Han Hyo Joo and Park Seo Joon, Yoo Yeon Seok appeared in a promotional video of the movie.

 photo BeautyInside Promo.jpg

The video released on Naver (click HERE) allures prospective audience to enter a competition by shooting a video like main character, Woo Jin.  The contest opens today [2015-04-29] until 3 May 2015. The winner of the competition will have their name put on the credit title.

The movie Beauty Inside is based on the 2012 American social film with the same name sponsored by Intel and Toshiba that won the  commercial awards at the 2013 Clio Awards & Cannes Lions. The Korean adaptation stars Han Hyo Joo as Yi Soo on whom Woo Jin has a big crush. According to enewsworld, Woo Jin is a man who wakes up as a different person every morning, across all genders, ages and nationalities. Kinda scary, don’t you think? Well,  not necessarily when you have literally all the stars out there to play this unique character. The stars casted to play as Woo Jin include our Yoo Yeon Seok, Park Seo Joon, Lee Beom Soo, Lee Dong Wook, and Lee Jin Wook as well as Park Shin Hye and Japan’s Ueno Juri. Sounds like we got a star-studded movie here.

 photo Beauty_Inside.jpgpicture credit to asianwiki

Prior to the promotional video, there are photos leaked from the shooting locations. Yoo Yeon Seok himself posted a couple of photos [P1, P2, P3] in Praha when he apparently shot his scenes with Han Hyo Joo. Though he never really posted his picture with Han in Praha, no worries… we got it all covered.

photo Beauty Inside Shooting1.jpg photo Beauty Inside Shooting2.jpg picture credit to Beauty Inside Facebook Page

Yoo Yeon Seok also took a behind-the-scene picture with child actor Park Min Su who has kindly shared it on his instagram.

photo withchildactor.jpgpicture credit to Park Mi Su’s Instagram

The release dates for both Beauty Inside and The Mood That Day are still unknown.

What we know, Yoo Yeon Seok is still scheduled to shoot a new movie, currently titled “Hae Uh Hwa“, with Han Hyo Joo. This movie was supposed to start filming in April but KingKong Entertainment Ceo Lee Jin Sung has kindly confirmed that the shooting will only happen in early summer. So let’s be thankful, the free timeslot created by the pushback enabled Yoo Yeon Seok to accept Hong Sisters’ offer to play Baek Geun Woo in Warm and Cozy.

Guess it’s fate, people…

Yoo Yeon Seok Nominated for Best Supporting Actor At 2015 Baeksang Award

Yoo Yeon Seok is on the running to pick up a Baeksang win for “best supporting actor in movie” this year. He is nominated for his role as the King in  the movie “Royal Tailor” at 51st Baeksang Art Award. This is the first award nomination that Yoo Yeon Seok received for this particular performance.

He is up against “The Informant” co-star Lee Kyeong Yong, Yu Hee Jin, Song Sae Byeok, and Park Sung Wong for the win. His name is also on the running for a popularity award in which fan’s vote will decide the winner. The results will be announced during the awarding ceremony in May 2015.
